Becoming Your Best Self

Many people speak about the notion of "becoming the best version of yourself" but don't really know what it takes to get there, or what that even is.
When you envision the best version of yourself, what do you envision? A fitter body? More confidence? Greater self-esteem? Simply being happier?
More often than not, when we set such ultimate goals, we in turn set equal expectations on ourselves. In short, it's intimidating and we don't even know where to begin! And when we do begin, we then become upset and discouraged that despite our efforts, we aren't even close to achieving those goals! This is because by doing so, we place ourselves in a position where we are living in the future, not the present. And when the reality of who/how we are in the present meets the illusion of the future, we suffer from it. That goal then becomes driven by anxiety rather than positive intention.
It's important to visualize the ultimate goal you desire and remind yourself of it from time to time, but it's KEY to ALWAYS live in and for the present.
If the goal is a fitter body- challenge yourself, focus on your workout of the day and give it your best each and every time. If it's to have greater confidence and self-esteem? Challenge yourself to do one thing each day that is outside of your comfort zone. Love yourself by reminding yourself that you are great now and are capable of greatness. If the goal is a career change? Chip away at working towards achieving that career little by little each day. As quoted by Will Smith, "Don't try to build the greatest wall that's ever been built. Focus on laying a single, expertly-placed brick. Then keep doing that, every day."
We must challenge ourselves for growth to happen- face those fears, break those limits and stay disciplined in doing so. Have patience with yourself. Stay persistent. Take pride and joy in the process and in the fact that you are truly doing your best. Celebrate the everyday achievements. This is how to stay rooted in the present, how to achieve that ultimate goal without living in the shadows of it, and most importantly, how to be a better and happier you.
